Heritage exhibition at Amerat Park sees huge turnout

The participation of Sur in the 2019 Muscat Festival is an affirmation of the relationship between man and his heritage, which extends through generations and time periods.
The heritage exhibition witnessed a remarkable turnout, and showcased the history of the sea, old fishing tools and shipbuilding. The exhibition also featured old doors made of teak with unique engravings, as well as a silver corner.
To depict the urban environment, women in the field of crafts and various industries, such as the manufacture of incense, perfume and sandalwood, participated.
In the agricultural environment section, a number of agricultural practices were introduced, including irrigation, and the exploitation of environmental raw materials in the manufacture of all types of products.
The most prominent industry in the wilayat is the shipbuilding industry, where the people excelled at making ships. The exhibition also managed to embody some of the maritime industries, such as the fishing net industry.
The popular games showcased, such Al Hawalais, are part of the traditional legacy passed on by generations.
Folk arts from Sur — most popular in Al Razhah, Al Azi, Al Maydan, Shobani, Al Tagrood, Al Tanboorah, Al Hambal, Al Rari and Al Raay—were also showcased.
The number of visitors to the festival has increased in the past few days, reaching more than half a million, owing to the diversity of events starting from the heritage village of Amerat Park, in which 20 wilayats are competing this year to embody the reality of Omani life.
Amerat Park offers more trade fairs, stage events and spectacular visual shows, while Al Naseem Gardens exhibits children’s theatre, consumer fairs, and most interestingly, the Heritage Village, which offers a realistic embodiment of Oman’s authentic culture.
