Muscat: D B Chhetri is the most familiar name in the Nepalese community in the Sultanate of Oman, as he and his association, the Non-Residential Nepali Association (NRNA) serve as a link to solve the issues that Nepali nationals face in Oman.
Now, Chhetri is acting as the Middle East co-ordinator of the NRNA.
Today, the Times of Oman is featuring Chhetri and his association NRNA in the #OmanPride Campaign.

Rescues Nepalese
Chhetri is in Oman for the last 11 years and he is always there to help the Nepalese nationals in the Sultanate. He had rescued many Nepalese who have been duped by the sponsors.
“Many Nepali women come to Oman as housemaids and sometimes get into trouble. Without any payment many have suffered a lot,” Chhetri told the Times of Oman.
“Not only women, we have rescued numerous men as well who were cheated by the employers and send them back to Nepal,” he added.
According to Chhetri, many of these workers are not only deprived of a salary but also denied any communication with their families back in Nepal.
The Non-Residential Nepali Association is a social organisation and its main intention is to get in touch with the Nepalese in the Sultanate.
The NRNA organises awareness campaigns for the people of Nepal who reside in the Sultanate to familiarise them with the rules, culture etc.
The association also helps the Embassy of Nepal in Oman to reach out to the migrant workers in the Sultanate.
Blood donation
Members of the association donate blood for the needy without any favouritism.
Recently,the NRNA launched an initiative to build shelters for the earthquake victims in Nepal and they are seeking help of good human beings to make this initiative a successful one.
“We usually conduct programmes to promote our culture and tourism in the Sultanate. We are in serious discussion with the Nepal government to organise a community festival to promote the tourism of Nepal in the Middle East,” Chhetri said.
“We want people to visit our country and to enjoy the scenic beauty of Nepal and its culture,” he added.
