Oman’s consumer watchdog helps recover OMR23,755 in 2018

Muscat: Officials from the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) in North Sharqiyah helped recover OMR23,755 last year, authorities announced.
The administrative fines stood at OMR15,200, according to PACP.
In a statement by the PACP, “The PACP department in North Sharqiyah received 321 complaints, including 67 complaints of car dealerships and services, 46 complaints of workshops that repair cars, 45 complaints of aluminum and blacksmith workshops and 34 complaints of manpower.”
The report also pointed out that 147 violations were written, of which 51 were for not mentioning the price on goods, 22 for price increases and 17 for expired items.
The report added that the number of complaints received by the department amounted to 235 and the number of seizures amounted to 4,704 items.
“The department has dealt with all these complaints, violations, notices and seizures by taking necessary measures in accordance with the provisions of the Consumer Protection Law and other consumer protection decisions,” it further said.
The report said that the number of awareness activities carried out by the department in 2018 amounted to 51.
