Five expats arrested for pulling off online scams in Oman

Muscat: Five expats have been arrested by the Royal Oman Police for scamming locals and residents by sending messages on WhatsApp, the police announced.

As per the police's announcement, all the suspects were of an 'Asian' nationality.

In a statment online, ROP said: “The Department of Criminal Investigation, led by Dhofar governorate police, arrests five Asian nationals on charges of electronic fraud.”

According to authorities the suspects would use the mobile application WhatsApp to send messages to locals.

“Legal proceedings are being taken against the suspects,” the police added.
