Football: Juventus Academy Oman crowned MENA J League U-8 Club Series champions

MUSCAT: Juventus Academy Oman who played host for the Middle East and North African Region J League U-8’s Club Series Tournament were declared champions when they beat Najoom Academy by a solitary goal in the final which was held during the weekend.
The tournament saw some 150 young footballers take part including teams from across the GCC, Juventus Academy Bahrain and Juventus Academy Kuwait made the journey to Oman, in order to be a part of this tournament, as well as other local academies in Oman.
The tournament was organised in order to create a competitive spirit and experience amongst the players.
The two-day tournament saw some breathtaking football, and exciting games. Juventus Academy Oman Team who had entered four teams began the day with the first team winning all their games scoring 11 goals, and conceding only one goal. Juventus Academy Oman topped the table with 15 points on the first day. Teams Two, Three, and Four also worked extremely hard picking up vital points in what were some very close games.
In the second day of action an additional 24 group stage matches were held, in which teams battled it out for the semi-final spot of the Cup and 5th to 8th go into the semi-finals of the Plate.
Juventus Academy Oman topped the table and remained undefeated, scoring 24 goals, and gaining maximum 27 points.
At the end of the group stage Juventus Academy Oman, Najoom Academy, Pro 11, and Juventus Academy Bahrain made it to the semi-finals.
At the end of the first semi-final match Juventus Academy Oman beat Juventus Academy Bahrain in a penalty shootout, after both teams were locked 1-1 at full time. In the other match Najoom Academy got the better of Pro 11 to set up a final clash with Juventus Academy Oman. In the final between Juventus Academy Oman and Najoom Academy, both teams played good soccer but it was Juventus Academy Oman who dominated the game and went on to win 1-0, to be crowned champions of the GCC Club Series Under-8’s for the third year in a row.
Juventus Academy second team ended the tournament as Plate Runner’s up.
Juventus Academy Oman Under-14 team will travel to Abu Dhabi for the fourth leg of the GCC Club Series which will be held on February 22.
