Football: Oman eye quarterfinal berth

MUSCAT: The Oman national football team will take on Iran today in the knockout stage of the AFC Asian Cup with an eye on a quarterfinal berth, which will be held at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Oman secured the third place after defeating Turkmenistan 3-1 in a Group F stage thus making them eligible for the Round of 16.
All members of the team trained yesterday, at the Academy of Al Jazira Club in Abu Dhabi under the supervision of Mohsin Jawhar.
Coach Pim Verbeek National team head coach said that “we understand that the match is going to be against a strong team who possess a number of talented players mainly in the defence” at the time he confirmed that he was confident in the players who would have to work hard to qualify for the quarterfinal stage of the tournament.
