Muscat: A mother and daughter have been reunited after 33 years at Dubai International Airport, with the help of the Dubai Police and an old photograph.
According to statement by authorities, the two were separated in Egypt after the girl's father gained custody of the daughter.
Dubai Police said: “The directorate general of airport security at the Dubai Police succeeded in reuniting a mother and her daughter after being separated for nearly 33 years.
"The two were separated after the father divorced the mother, and took [custody of] the daughter and three of her sisters. At the time, the eldest daughter was just six years old," the police added.
For many years, the mother tried her best to communicate with her daughters but she could not.
Years later, the mother moved to the UAE and managed to find the number of the eldest daughter.
The daughter had difficultly travelling out of the country, but since she eventually needed to travel for medical treatment, her trip meant that she would transit at Dubai Airport.
"When the mother found out, she approached the authorities at airport security to ask for the chance to meet her daughter," the police said.
"After three hours of searching for the daughter with no information besides an old photo or means of communicating with her, she was found and reunited with her mother after 33 years," added Dubai Police.
