Citizen arrested on charges of robbery in Oman

Muscat: An Omani citizen has been arrested on charges of robbery, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) has said.

The accused who was caught in the middle of the crime, was carrying a bladed weapon when he attempted to rob another citizen’s house in the “seventh district” of al Khoud.

In a statement online, police officials said, “ROP was able to apprehend an Omani national while he was in the middle of breaking into another national's home with the intention of committing theft."

However, this wasn’t the first case the suspect was involved in. “During the investigation, it became clear that the accused was also involved in other breaking and entering cases, as well as [cases of] of robbery [where he was armed] with a bladed weapon," the statement added.

The Public Prosecution's statistics in 2017 revealed that the directories in the Sultanate received 2,272 cases of theft during the year, 505 of which were registered in Muscat.
