Muscat: The Oman Football Association (OFA) on Sunday announced the arrival of a Grassroots Football expert, who is on an assignment from UEFA for three months to help the OFA action the plans laid out in the Technical Game plan.

Jamie Houchen, who has previously worked 15 years with the English FA, latterly as their Head of Education, and 10 years with premier league side Norwich City FC, is an expert in Grassroots Development, and has been appointed after a request from the OFA Technical Director Jim Selby.

Jamie’s brief is to boost the plans that have been developed, with a particular emphasis on Community Clubs, Schools and Club sides – with the goal to increase participation specifically in the six to 12 year age group.

His work will take place in two phases – with Jamie in Oman till the end of November then returning in the New Year.

His role will also leave a legacy of employment behind with Omani staff to be appointed to lead the programmes.

“There are a number of new initiatives we will be looking at in the coming months, and Jamie will be on hand to ensure we start all in the right manner. My thanks to UEFA and to the AFC, and also to our chairman and OFA Board of Directors for their continuing support,” Selby said.

Jamie commented: “I arrived just in time to see the great performance of the Oman team last week, and I have been told about the great passion that Oman has for football. I am really looking forward to continuing the development of the sport.”
