India's Supreme Court reinstates Alok Verma as CBI chief

Muscat: India's Supreme Court reinstated the ousted director of India's Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday.
The government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi had removed him from the post in October.
In a statement, the Indian National Congress said, "We welcome the Supreme Court's verdict lambasting the govt. against their illegal removal of Alok Verma as CBI Director. The SC has reinstated Alok Verma as director.
"Alok Verma was investigating the #RafaleScam, so he was illegally and undemocratically removed from his position. Today the SC has proven to PM Modi that democracy will always fight back."
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had accused Modi of removing Verma to quash a probe into an alleged corrupt deal. Gandhi tweeted, "Congratulations to the SC for upholding the law."
