Oman blood bank issues urgent call for A- group donors

Muscat: Oman’s central blood bank issued an urgent message for donors to come forward and give them A-negative blood, as patients in hospitals immediately require them for emergency blood transfusions.
The announcement from the blood bank comes just a day after they issued another request for A+ and A- blood types.
A statement from the DBBS (Department of Blood Banks Services) said, “Further to our previous appeal, demand for blood from the A-type group is still high, as new cases are in urgent need of blood transfusion. We renew our call to the A-negative members to quickly donate blood or blood platelets at the Central Blood Bank in Bausher.”
Those who wish to donate blood can go to the Central Blood Bank between 8am and 8pm on weekdays, and on Fridays from 230pm to 8pm. Alternatively, the blood bank can be reached on 24591255 or 24594255 or can be contacted on WhatsApp on 94555648. Regular updates from the blood bank can also be received on their Twitter account, @DbbsOman.
The blood bank had previously put out an urgent call for donors of both A+ and A- blood types, saying, “A number of cases are in urgent need of blood transfusions today. We hope that the A+ and A- blood carriers will be able to initiate blood donation at the Central Blood Bank in Bausher.”
In addition, to provide much-needed blood to the blood bank, the volunteer organisation Al Nar Al Jaari, in collaboration with the Central Blood Bank, Oman Blood Donors organisation, and Al Qadisiyah Sports Club, and a number of other charitable organisations, held a blood donation drive at Al Shergah Mosque in the Wilayat of Seeb from 4pm to 9pm.
“Al Nar Al Jaari, in collaboration with the number of sports and volunteer teams, is organising a blood donation campaign today at the majlis of the Shergah Mosque in the Wilayat of Seeb from 4pm to 9pm,” said the DBBS. “There is a special place for women.”
