Nearly 6 million passengers used Mwasalat bus services in 2018

Muscat: Over 5.9 million passengers in Oman have used Mwasalat’s bus services in 2018.
This figure includes passengers transported from January 1 to December 31, 2018 on all internal lines in the Governorate of Muscat and external lines including various governorates of the Sultanate.
The number of people using the services grew by 30 per cent when compared to 2017.
The last quarter of 2018 saw an average of 19,000 passengers travelling daily and a total of 24,000 passengers used the services on Fridays. According to the latest data, Omani passengers formed 40 per cent of the total number, indicating an increase in local’s awareness to use public transportation.
Omanisation at Mwasalat hit a tremendous 95 per cent, taking the total number of Omani employees at the company to 1,231, with 360 Omanis being hired in 2018.
Mwasalat is also planning to launch a new application to smoothen the process of booking tickets online and to subscribe to various packages of tickets. The app will also allow passengers to track bus movements and view precise data about each bus and more to be announced during 2019.
