Over 114,000 surgeries performed in Oman in 2017

Muscat: A total of 114,077 surgeries were performed by hospitals and health centres in Oman in 2017, according to statistics revealed by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
Out of the total surgeries, 50,656 were major operations, while minor operations stood at 63,421.
The Khoula Hospital performed 7,616 surgeries, the highest number of major surgeries. It accounted for 15 per cent of such operations performed in the country.
Minimal operations conducted in the health centres stood at 14,184 accounting for 22.4 per cent of the minor operations. The Health Statistics Bulletin issued by NCSI also shows that outpatient clinics in the Ministry of Health (MoH) recorded about 15,792,546 visits which included 14,994,707 Omanis (an average of 0.6 visits per person per year) and 797,839 expatriate patients (an average of 0.4 visits).
The bulletin also revealed that outpatient clinics in the private sector recorded 3,868,742 visits, including 1,958,757 visits by Omanis (with an average of 0.9 visits per person during the year), while 1,909,985 visits were by expatriates (an average of 1.0 visit per person).
