Muscat: The Supreme Council for Planning yesterday held its first meeting for 2013 under the chairmanship of Dr Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidi, Minister of Commerce and Industry and Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Planning.

The Council reviewed the initial study for assessing Oman Vision 2020 in a bid to develop the road map for the remaining period till 2020. The meeting expressed its satisfaction with the growth achieved by the Sultanate in population, health, public debt, financial reserves, surplus of the current account and non-oil revenues indicators. The energy sector had made much development by establishing gas-based industries and downstream industries.  Still, the targeted Omanisation rate was not yet achieved.

Based on the discussion, the Council recommended focusing on the social aspect when preparing for the ninth five-year development plan (2016-2020), the last plan in Oman Vision 2020 with special focus on creating job opportunities and developing human resources.
