Muscat: Al Batinah Expressway, Oman’s first four-lane highway, will be partially opened on July 14. The 18-km stretch of the road connecting Halban Bridge and Barka will cut the distance for those travelling to the wilayats of Wadi al Maawil, Nakhl, Al Awabi, Al Rustaq and those travelling to Ibri via Al Rustaq.

The road is part of a long strategic street to United Arab Emirates. The route to the UAE will be via Khatmat Mallaha in Shinas.

It’s a motorway without roundabouts or intersections. Instead it has flyovers that don’t hamper the traffic flow.

One of the strategic projects being implemented by the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Al Batinah Expressway will provide a root solution to problem of congestion currently seen at the existing Al Batinah Highway once completed in 2017.
