Ministry of Manpower launches heat exhaustion awareness campaign

Muscat: The Ministry of Manpower has launched a campaign aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of labourers working outside in the heat.

The ministry reported via Twitter "the 2018 Heat Exhaustion Campaign has been launched in collaboration with private sector organisations, so to raise awareness about the various risks of heat exhaustion to labourers and the preventive measures to reduce such risks."

Salem Saeed Al Badi, Director General of Labour Welfare at the Ministry of Manpower, was quoted as saying "the Ministry of Manpower is working hard to take preventative measures to avoid such injuries. It is therefore working to put together a list of important information on safety requirements for establishments operating in the private sector."

"In particular the ministry is working here on the enforcement of Article 16, which prohibits labourers being forced to work on site or in uncovered areas between 12:30 pm and 3:30 pm during the months of June, July and August, every year."
