More than 1,000 expired gas cylinders destroyed in Oman

Muscat: Oman's Ministry of Commerce and Industry has destroyed more than 1,000 gas cylinders after their expiry meant they were no longer valid under national standards.
A total of 1,013 cylinders were destroyed in the Dakhiliyah Governorate, in cooperation with the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance, and Al Mudhairib International for Sale and Purchase of Iron and Scrap.
Of them, 944 cylinders were of a capacity of 22 litres, and 69 cylinders had a capacity of 44 litres. This was done due to the expiry of their validity as per Omani standards 201/2014 regarding requirements for filling, transporting, handling and storing LPG cylinders.
The Department of Commerce and Industry in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate added that these cylinders were handed over to Haifa Company for periodic inspection, which has the necessary licenses given by the competent authorities. This is due to its qualifications and expertise for examination, testing, maintaining and rehabilitating LPG cylinders according to the terms and conditions of the standard.
The ministry said that the cylinders were being inspected externally for rust, base faults, leakage and spills as well as hydraulic pressure tests that were done to implement Omani standards to ensure the safety of consumers due to the threats these cylinders normally posed if not handled properly.
