Football: Rooney to DC United deal nearly done, says report

Washington: Wayne Rooney's arrival to Major League Soccer (MLS) is getting closer to becoming official.
Rooney, 32, is expected to sign with DC United as a designated player in a two-year deal worth just more than $5 million annually, according to Sky Sports News.
The deal could be finalised as soon as Monday. A secondary deal would allow Rooney to return to Everton in a coaching role in the future, the report also says.
Rooney wouldn't be able to join the club until the league's secondary transfer window opens on July 10.
DC United opens its new pitch, Audi Field, on July 14.
For the past month, Rooney's representatives began negotiating terms of a contract to move Rooney from Premier League club Everton.
Manager Sam Allardyce has said Rooney is not guaranteed a starting spot next season.
Rooney reportedly toured DC United's facilities and took a physical for the team during a visit from May 23 to 24.
Rooney re-joined Everton in July 2017 and is halfway through a two-year deal. He spent 13 seasons at Manchester United after signing from Everton as an 18-year-old, becoming their record goalscorer and winning five Premier League titles and the Champions League.
Rooney is Everton's top scorer with 11 goals this season.
With Manchester United, Rooney was 2010 Footballer of the Year and won five Premier League titles.
