Oman Post on course to become subsidy-free within three years

Muscat: Oman Post is on course to reach zero subsidies within three years, a senior official from the company said.
In a statement, Khalifa Al Kalbani, General Manager of Oman Post said, "Oman Post is working to become self-sufficient. We have a financial strategy in place which will allow us to hit zero subsidy in three years. At the moment, we have succeeded in reducing government subsidies by 30 per cent from 2017 to 2018."
"Every year, the number of parcels the Sultanate receives is increasing because of e-commerce. This is evident, as Oman Post has seen a remarkable increase of 227 per cent in the value of our parcel services," he added.
Al Kalbani’s statement coincided with the launch of the first Oman Post Forum, which was inaugurated at the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) Cultural Centre.
Highlighting the company’s strategy ‘Driving Transformation through Business Excellence’, Abdulmalik Al Balushi, Chief Executive Officer of Oman Post, said, “Our journey of excellence is hinged on transforming our business portfolio now and into the future.
"Our approach is rather simple; we are implementing a comprehensive strategy that streamlines all processes and drives greater operational effectiveness and efficiency.
“Implementing the latest models of business excellence, Oman Post merges global know-how with local expertise. We understand the requirements of our customers, while always striving to provide world-class service,” Al Balushi added.
Oman Post is currently carrying out a three-fold strategy revolving around the optimisation of core mail operations, parcel business growth, and market diversification. The strategy also underlines the importance of enhancing logistics and focusing on international growth to expand the company's reach, while diversifying its operations.
Al Balushi noted, “While there is definitely a shift in mind-set across the world when it comes to postal services, it is all about customer satisfaction. Oman Post is investing in technology in every aspect of its business portfolio and operations, while taking into account quality assurance, business excellence, and added value for its stakeholders.”
As part of its efforts to access new growth opportunities, Oman Post is broadening its portfolio with a host of new services. Examples include the Oman ePost, an advanced digital postal service that combines an email system with traditional mail services, allowing subscribers to receive printed mail and parcels without the need to subscribe to a conventional mailbox.
The first day of the Oman Post Forum saw the signing of a number of agreements between the Asyad member and other companies. Oman Post signed agreements with Dar Al Atta'a Association to become the logistics partner for the Min Beiti women’s empowerment program, and with e-payment provider Thawani.
