Oman’s Human Rights Commission celebrates 10th anniversary

Muscat: Oman’s Human Rights Commission celebrated its 10th anniversary today (December 10). At the event, officials revealed statistics about various cases related to women, children and people with special needs.

Abdullah Al Hosni, Chairman of the Commission said, “We have received more than 700 reports related to Human Rights, in addition we have visited prisons, and courts to ensure that Human rights are being preserved.”

According to officials, a total of 25 cases related to children were reported up until 2018. Additionally, 113 cases related to women were reported from 2011 to 2018, and 19 cases related to the rights of people with special needs were reported.

The event that was hosted to commemorate the organisation’s 10th anniversary, took place under the auspices of His Excellency Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal Al Busaidi, Minister of Interior Affairs. OHRC also organised a children’s drawing competition from different schools in cooperation with the Ministry of Education.

The event was attended by His Excellency Dr. Yahyah Al Mandhari Chairman of the State Council, Khalid Al Mawali Chairman of Shura Council and His Excellency Sheikh Khalid bin Omar Al Mahroon, Minister of Civil Service.
