Forum reviews development of event tourism in Oman

Muscat: The second version of Oman Forum for the Experts of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), which started on Wednesday at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, reviewed the development of incentives and conferences tourism in general in the Sultanate and meetings industry in particular.
The forum, organised by the Ministry of Tourism represented by the Oman Conference Office in cooperation with Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre and ICCA aimed at promoting and marketing the tourism potentials of the Sultanate among the specialised international meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) organisations.
Khalid bin Waleed Al Zadjali, Director of Oman Conference Office at the Ministry of Tourism said that the conference aimed at benefiting from ICCA members and raising awareness of Oman Conference Office and its efforts to promote business tourism in Oman.
Trevor McCartney, General Manager of Oman Convention and Exhibition Center expressed his joy to host this vital forum which is in line with the Sultanate’s vision to become a destination for MICE tourism. He pointed out that the main pillar for this vision was to set up Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, which is an international edifice that hosted about 320 events since its opening in October 2016.
Oman Forum for ICCA Experts included many panel discussions the first of which was for welcoming and introducing participants form the Sultanate and other countries.
The session included a presentation about the development of incentives and conferences in the Sultanate in general and business meetings in particular. The session also included another presentation on the meeting and events as drivers for economic and cultural transformation. The second session covered how customers and international organisations that organise international conferences look at the Middle East region.
The third session included roundtable meeting for the working groups that discussed a number of themes, such as enhancing competitiveness and the competition among companies and destination to attract business.
The third session touched on key issues, such as the digital effects elements in events industry and the challenges associated with remaining on top of preferred destination.
