Muscat: With over 3,500 visitors thronging the Colours of CoBrA Art exhibition at Bait Al Zubair, it has been extended until the May 17, 2015.

The colourful and expressive exhibition showcases over 40 pieces from the CoBrA Museum of Modern Art in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

The exhibits by European artists changed the face of art in the post-war period from 1948 to 1951.

"Breathtaking! Thank you for bringing the exhibition all the way here," said one of the many Omanis who visited Bait Al Zubair.

An Omani student said he had loved the experience, while a visitor from the UK said he was amazed to see this exhibition in Muscat.

Exceptionally brilliant
"
Thank you for inspiring us and our children," said the visitor.

'World class', 'exceptionally brilliant' and 'gorgeous, stunning work' were some of the other reactions from visitors.

The show has been on at Bait Al Zubair for the past six weeks and during that time more than 700 school children have visited the exhibition.

The staff at Bait Al Zubair has been trained to conduct workshops with students, exploring the style of the Cobra artists and engaging young people in creating their own art.

The Sultan School has used the exhibition as part of the International Baccalaureate programme with some of their project work based on the works by Appel, Cornel and Constant.

"Fantastic! The students really enjoyed their live art experience," said Heather Ford from the Sultan School on the exhibition.

Many Omani and Dutch businesses have sponsored the exhibition.

Omantel, Oman Arab Bank and MB Holdings in addition to Sohar Port and Freezone along with the Netherland's embassy in Muscat were the main sponsors.

By supporting creativity in Oman it gave access to people from all walks of life to engage with their imaginations, explore the beauty of art and think a bit out of the box, said the sponsors.

The Colours of Cobra continues at Bait Al Zubair until May 17 from Saturday through Thursday, between 9.30 am and 6.00 pm.
