Voltamp Power, Tatung sign collaboration agreement

Muscat: Voltamp Power, a public company listed on the Muscat Securities Market, has signed a technology collaboration agreement with Tatung of Taiwan, relating to the design and production of 220kV and 400kV Class power transformers in Oman.
The agreement was signed by Ahmed Al Subhi, Director of Voltamp Power, and Frank Shiue, Vice President of Tatung Company.
“Our collaboration with Tatung opens new opportunities for upgrading the design and manufacture of power transformers based on the latest technologies. The collaboration is particularly beneficial to the GCC region because it supports the manufacture of world class products at local competitive prices,” said Hasan Abdawani, CEO of Voltamp.
Voltamp Power, which has manufacturing units in Rusayl and Sohar, is the first company to manufacture and supply 160MVA and 125MVA of 132kV Class power transformers in the GCC region with an annual capacity of 6,500MVA.
The company has also type-tested its 125MVA 132kV Class and 20MVA 33kV Class power transformers at KEMA, the Netherlands. Voltamp Power Transformers has already supplied more than 100 units of 132kV Class power transformers, which includes some 60 units of 125MVA 132/33kV power transformers for various projects of the Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC), as well as 40 units of various ratings up to 160MVA to power plants and the oil and gas sector.
Voltamp’s endeavour is to offer European quality at local prices with qualified and trained local service back-up. It also provides engineering services for installation, supervision of erection, testing and commissioning plus supply of spares and capability to repair and refurbish transformers of any make, type and year of manufacture.
Voltamp has a one-of-its-kind and world class manufacturing factory, which has a built-up area of 14,500sqm on a total plot of 80,000sqm.
Tatung is a well-respected and diversified electrical company manufacturing products that include gas-insulated switchgears, transformers up to 1000MVA 500kV Class, wires and cables, and motors that are exported all over the world.
