Muscat: Omantel has launched a project to introduce fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) technology in Oman that will provide the fastest and most comprehensive range of internet applications.

The introduction of FTTH would can provide a comprehensive variety of entertainment options for both the home and business users through a high speed connection network. The FTTH technology will also provide internet users with high speed internet services that will support services such as high definition video, video on demand, e-education etc.

The project has been implemented in phases starting with the main towns of different governorates. FTTH has also been provided in areas located outside the main towns. The company will continue its endeavour to extend FTTH to newly planned areas as an alternative to copper cables that were used in the past.

Commenting on the service, Said Abdullah Al Ajmi, vice president of Omantel Integrated Networks Unit said, "FTTH is a state-of-the-art technology that provides high speed internet broadband with speeds of more than 150 MB per second. We, at Omantel are very proud of being the first telecommunication company to provide this service many years ahead in Muscat."

"There is a growing demand for home broadband and modern technologies which have urged us to adopt a strategy to build new fibre optic plant networks in newly-planned areas."

FTTH provides customers with unmatched benefits including high speed and reliability regardless of the distance between the customer and the central exchange.

FTTH, which is the new generation of broadband, will open new horizons for customers to use the internet especially for applications that require high bandwidth and speeds such as e-education, e-examination, the 3D presentation, video conferences, remote security management and other broadband applications.
