JAPAN, Fukushima: President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach held a meeting with young athletes in Fukushima yesterday.

During the meeting, Bach told to the youth, “Sports and baseball have given you and your families hope”. “Sports has helped you to overcome the challenges and give you the opportunity to meet colleagues and friends in the team, and in the end it is about sport, he added”.

Bach, accompanied by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, paid a short visit to the region of Fukushima, which witnessed a violent earthquake and tsunami in 2011 which led to the destruction of three reactors at the Fukushima Daichi nuclear plant in the north-east of the Japanese capital Tokyo.

Baseball and softball games are expected in Fukushima within the framework of the Olympic Games 2020.

The IOC Executive Committee is expected to hold a meeting in Tokyo early next week.
