Colonel Saleh Al Ghailani, the ROP chief of North Sharqiyah, said that a majority of the incidents occurred when either the guns were being cleaned or when someone was playing with guns in the presence of others. The other cases took place while hunting birds, firing at weddings and during other occasions. The weapons and ammunition laws ban carrying of weapons in public places, except some light conventional guns with permission.
