New rule for Indian nationals seeking jobs in Oman

Muscat: Indian nationals who are seeking employment in Oman and 17 other countries, will now have to register online on the Indian government’s eMigrate portal.
If Indian nationals fail to register themselves starting from January 1, 2019, they will be off-loaded by the appropriate authorities at the airports, a notice issued by the Ministry of External Affairs in India said.
The 18 countries include Oman, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, South Sudan, Syria, Thailand, UAE and Yemen. For registration, Indians can visit www.emigrate.gov.in and enter their details on the link, “ECNR Registration”, and follow the steps to fill the registration form. Upon the successful completion of registration, the emigrant would receive an SMS/email, the announcement said.
Starting from 01.01.2019, no Indian emigrant holding a Non-Emigration Check Required (Non-ECR) passport would be allowed to go to the 18 countries for employment without prior registration on eMigrate, as a measure of extending protection and ensuring their welfare overseas. Off-loading of unregistered Non-ECR emigrants at the airports would be effected by the appropriate authorities after January 1, 2019,” the notice said.
It is to be noted that the registration must be completed 24 hours prior to their departure.
“The said registration of Non-ECR passport holders will be mandatory and is required to be completed at least 24 hours prior to the actual departure,” read the notice. “The new rule by the government of India is meant to provide protection and welfare to their emigrants abroad.”
According to the Indian embassy, “Online registration is mandatory for Non-ECR passport holders travelling for work in 18 ECR countries. Those who are already abroad need not apply at this point of time.”
