RAFO Band celebrates annual day with new building inaguration

Muscat: The Musical Band of Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO) celebrated its annual day and the official opening of its new building at the Ghala Air Base under the patronage of Sayyid Badr bin Saud bin Harib Al Busaidi, Minister Responsible for Defence Affairs.
On this occasion, the Minister Responsible for Defence Affairs and senior attendees toured the sections and facilities of the new building of RAFO’s Directorate of Music Department, where they were briefed on the classes and workshops of music.
They were also briefed on the mechanism of strengthening the musical hearing, the significant progress offered by the new building, in addition to the facilities and potentials of the building in supporting the musical band of RAFO.
In the theatre of RAFO’s Directorate of Music, Al Busaidi, followed a presentation on the stages of the march of RAFO’s musical band and its development.
The jazz band and the Arabic music band performed a number of different musical pieces. The ceremony included an operetta that tells the development of RAFO’ musical band.
He toured the studio and was briefed on its various potentials.
It is worth mentioning that RAFO’s musical band was established in 1981 and received a substantial share of the development. The women’s section was also introduced in 2008.
The new building is a significant progress of RAFO’s musical band. The building also hosts the Directorate of Music in RAFO, which is the foundation of the musical band, in terms of training and qualification.
The event was attended by Mohammed bin Nasser Al Rasabi Secretary General of the Ministry of Defence, Lt-Gen Ahmed bin Harith Al Nabhani, Chief of Staff of the Sultan’s Armed Forces (SAF), Air Vice-Marshal Matar bin Ali Al Obaidani, RAFO Commander, Admiral Abdullah bin Khamisa Al Rasi, Commander of the Royal Navy of Oman, Maj-Gen Salim bin Mussalem Katan, commandant of the National Defence College and a number of guests.
