MUSCAT: The United States of America (USA) trounced Kenya, while Singapore got the better of Denmark at the ICC World Cricket League Division 3 played at the Amerat turf grounds on Monday.
Kenya won the toss and invited team USA to bat first accepting the invitation USA were all out for 254 in their stipulated 50 overs, with major contribution coming from Taylor who scored a quickfire 41 from 35 balls, Aaron Jones chipping in with a steady 69 from 118 balls which included 2 hits to the fence and 3 huge over boundaries, H R Walsh then joined the party when he score 48 from 70 balls including 4 boundaries and 2 hits to the stands to take the score past the 250 mark.
NN Odhiambo was the main wicket-taker with figures off 4 for 50 from 8 overs, while the other bowler to strike was NN Odhiambo who finidhed with a match haul off 3 for 51 from 7 overs.
Facing a mammoth of a total Kenya in reply were all out for 96 runs in 26 overs with no major contribution from any of the batsmen, Ali Khan who was declared the man of the match finished his quota of 8 overs taking 3 wickets for 36 runs, EH Hutchinson took 3 for 17 from 6 overs and SN Neteavalkar 2 for 10 from 6 overs, the other wickets to fall went to HR Walsh and TK Patel who claimed a wicket a piece to see their team home. United States of America won the match by 158 runs.
In the other match held on the other turf ground Denmark won the toss and elected to field.
Singapore openers A Mutreja and A Dutta played with some intent when they both went on the rampage score half centuries respectively till Anique Uddin got rid of the two batsmen in the 30 over and with the scoreboard reading 2 for 162. Mutreja score 57 from 79 balls which included 4x4s and 2x6s, Dutta scored a run a ball to finish on 87 from 80 balls with 9x4s and 3x6s. Gaznawi coming at three down added a quickfire 40 from 39 balls with 1 hit to the fence and to huge sixes. Janak Prakash was the only other batsman to add significantly to the total by scoring 19 from 18 balls. Singapore were eventually bowled all out for 254 in their allotted 50 overs.
SA Ahmed was the main wicket-taker with3 for 46 followed by ND Laegsgaard with 2 for 63 from 10 overs and Anique Uddin with 2 for 36 from 10 overs.
Requiring 255 runs for a win Denmark in reply made 160 all out in 35.4 overs, with H. Shah topscoring with a patient knock of 85 from 105 balls which included 7x4s and 2x6s. S Ahmed batting in the middle scored 23 from 24 balls with 4 hits to the fence.
A Krishna was the wrecker-in-chief with 4 for 37 from9.4 overs, A Mahboob took 3 for 28 in 7 overs and A Paraam 2 for 16 from 4 overs. Denmark lost the match by 84 runs to hand Singapore full points. A Dutta was declared the man of the match.
