Tennis: OTA new technical staff begin coaching programme

MUSCAT: Oman Tennis Association new technical staff have embarked upon its new programmes with the focus on developing the standard of tennis in Oman for the national team including mini-tennis for various age groups.
This constitutes a step forward by the OTA towards developing the technical aspects of tennis players through the programme put in place by the head of the new technical staff, Coach Mark.
Currently the focus is on the mini-tennis programme, which has now entered its third year since its inception in 2016. This is a long-term programme drawn up by the OTA for the promotion and development of tennis among the various age groups and in preparation for future national teams.
A total of 53 players out of 100 were selected under the supervision of the former technical staff that are taking part in the programme. Thus, the best tennis players in Oman will take part in the second stage of the programme, which includes daily coaching at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher under the watchful guidance of coach, Mark, and his two Algerian assistants, Nabeel Dob and Soufian Dob, the Russian coach Sergei and the national coach Sulaiman Al Rawahi who was selected as part of the coaching team having successfully passed a tennis coaching course.
Munzir bin Tughlub Al Barwani, secretary general of Oman Tennis Association, stated that the mini-tennis programme was progressing in accordance with the set plan adding that the programme will enter its third stage in February 2019 with participation of the best players selected from the second stage. He pointed out that significant cooperation continued between the players’ parents and the programme’s supervisors and that this cooperation would further develop towards achieving the programme’s objectives.
