Animal lovers come together to raise awareness for welfare of dogs

Muscat: Animal welfare groups in Oman are hoping they can raise awareness towards the welfare of dogs in the Sultanate at the Canines for a Cause event, which is to be held this weekend.
Scheduled to be held at Al Bustan Palace in collaboration with Canadian Jebel K9, this year marks the 4th Annual Event for this initiative, presenting a fun-filled family day out for everyone to enjoy, especially dogs. Doors open at 9am and the official event will start at 10am, where a line-up of talented dogs will showcase displays such as “Agility, Search and Rescue Display” and “Jumping Display”.
“We have enjoyed many successful years of this fun event for a good cause,” said Alfa Vold, CEO Canadian Jebel K9. “Last year, we welcomed over 800 participants and over 200 dogs. You can imagine the excitement and buzz from dog-lovers enjoying the games and competitions, whilst marvelling at a world of breeds, coming together in the beautiful setting of Al Bustan Palace.”
For those who would like to add a little more fun to the day, guests are invited to bring their dogs in a costume and participate in the chance to win the “Best Dressed Dog” award. Some of the other entertaining competitions include “best trick”, dress-up relay, rocket recall, how-high-can-you-fly jumping competition, musical hoops, bone appetite, Paw-casso and find the treat. Visitors can also enter the obedience and agility competition, with ribbons being awarded for first, second and third place.
Dogs of all varieties and levels are welcome to join in, whether a beginner or experienced canine in competitions. The day boasts of prize draws and door prizes, as well as a host of vendors showcasing products and services for the community. The event will also shine a light on local rescue groups to help raise awareness for animal welfare across Oman.
The entrance fees for this special event are OMR5 per person and OMR2 per dog, with proceeds from ticket sales going to the Oman Diabetes Association and Omani Paws. There will be lunch served on the lawns at an additional cost to the entrance fee.
