Oman, Romania discuss bilateral investments

Muscat: Viorica Dancila, Prime Minister of Romania today met with a number of Omani businessmen and women and their Romanian counterparts.
The meeting reviewed the available business and investment opportunities in the two countries to increase the volume of bilateral trade between the Sultanate and Romania.
The Romanian Prime Minister said in her speech that the Romanian government is interested in enhancing cooperation with the Sultanate’s government and provide all facilities to increase investments in both countries.
She added that Romania encourages partnership with foreign investors within the framework of the public and private partnership. It urged Omani businessmen to study the projects which were floated from the Romanian side in fields, such as agriculture, transport, infrastructure, IT, cyber security, health, education and other fields.
She pointed out that her country attaches special importance to oil and gas sectors due to the great potentials the Sultanate has in these fields and the experience of the Romanian side in this field.
She hailed the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, especially on the level of diplomatic relations. She pointed out that the two countries, which have old connections, will mark in next May the 40th anniversary of the diplomatic relations. The event will provide the opportunity to restructure the bilateral relations and bonds.
She added that Romania, which will take over the EU presidency on January 1st 2019, has achieved high economic growth rates on the level of EU which qualified it to become a destination for businessmen.
On his part, Dr. Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidi, Minister of Commerce and Industry welcomed the Romanian Prime Minister and her accompanying delegation. He hoped that the visit will open new horizons for bilateral cooperation between the two friendly countries.
He added that the import and export statistics between the two friendly countries are humble compared to the strong relations between the two countries. He pointed out that the Sultanate, which is known for its strategic location and high quality infrastructure, provides many opportunities for investors in various fields.
On his part, Qais bin Mohammed al- Yousef, Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) said that the value for the reciprocal trade between the two friendly countries as of June 2018 stood at more than $12 million.
He noted that the value of the Omani imports from Romania stood at about $56 million in 2013 and $46 million in 2016.
He also pointed out that OCCI and Romania Chambers of Commerce and Industry signed a cooperation agreement five years ago and that the support of the Romanian Prime Minister and her accompanying delegation to renew this agreement will push the bilateral economic relations to wider horizons.
He added that the two chambers seek to enhance trade exchange, facilitate exchange of trade delegations, organizing promotional exhibitions for products and services by the two sides and share investment data, especially those related to available investment opportunities. -ONA
He also pointed out that the trade and investment relations between the two countries witness continuous improvement; thanks to the support and facilities provided by the relevant organizations. No doubt that the opening of an embassy of the Republic of Romani in the Sultanate will contribute to enhancing relation in economy, business, tourism, education and culture fields.
The meeting includes presentations by the Omani side on the Special Economic Zone in Duqm (SEZD), the available investment opportunities there and the facilities provided to investor. ‘’Ithraa’’ also made a presentation on how to invest at the different economic and free zones.
The Romanian side made a presentation on the promising business opportunities at the prioritized sectors by the Republic of Romanian in the coming stage.
The meeting was attended by a number of their excellences, as well as Omani and Romanian officials and businessmen.
