Asia Cup roundup: Korea rout Oman

MUSCAT: Oman who are yet to register their first win of the Asian Champions Trophy hockey tournament, lost to the mighty Koreans 4-2 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex, Muscat on Tuesday.
The hosts opened their score through Salah Al Saadi who banged home a field goal in the 6th minute but the Koreans immediately equalised through a field goal from Taiel Hwang.
In the second quarter both the teams played cautiously without giving any chances to their opponents and the score was 1-1 at the end of first half.
Oman came out with all guns blazing to take a 2-1 lead in the 36th minute of the third quarter with a field goal from Mohammed Al Lawati, who latched on to a loose ball to dribble his way past a couple of defenders to put the ball at the back of the net.
In the final quarter of the second half, Oman’s Mubarak Al Qasimi was sent out for rough play in the 46th minute. Taking advantage of the situation, Koreans bounced back in the 47th minute through Shukoon Cho who received a through pass to make it 2-2. The Koreans then upped the ante and got a penalty corner. And Jihun Yang made no mistake by putting the ball into the net to make it 3-2 in the 51st minute.
In an effort to hold on to the lead the Koreans started rough play resulting in green cards being dished out to two Koreans. Junwoo Jeong and Seunghoon Lee were sent off, but that did not stop the Koreans from extending their lead to 4-2. Jonghyun Jang converted a penalty corner in the dying minutes to make it 4-2.
