Oman's Health Ministry issues clarification on Yemen

Muscat: The Ministry of Health (MOH), has issued a statement about the child Yemen and his treatment.

A statement issued online by MOH said: "According to what was raised on social media sites regarding the Ministry’s refusal to dispense medicine that was previously given to the child Yemen, the Ministry affirmed that it is committed to its moral, professional and legal duty to provide medicines to patients completely without any discrimination or favoritism. The right to treatment is guaranteed to every citizen and resident on the land of Oman, in accordance with the Basic Law of the State and the regulatory laws."

"The Ministry denies that it refrained from dispensing the medicine referred to to the child for any reasons related to the cost, as the Ministry replaced the treatment with another drug that was more expensive and safer, in order to ensure the child's safety and with the testimony of experts and specialists according to the reports prepared by three independent medical bodies."

"Whereas the Ministry of Health is considered a party to the matter in its capacity as responsible for general competence in providing health services, the Ministry affirms that it operates in accordance with professional medical and humanitarian ethics and is fully responsible for the life and safety of the patient."
