Clijsters, Murray get 2020 US Open wild cards

Washington: Former champions Kim Clijsters of Belgium and Andy Murray of Britain received wild cards to play the 2020 US Open, the organisers announced on Thursday.
Clijsters, the former women's singles world number one, will be looking to repeat her magic from the 2009 US Open, when she famously won the women's singles title as a wildcard after returning from her first retirement, during which she became a mother.
The three-time US Open champion (2005, 2009-10) came out of her second retirement earlier in 2020, and will be playing the US Open for the first time since she stepped away from the game following the 2012 US Open.
She is currently unranked, having played just two matches earlier this season at the Dubai Tennis Championships and the Monterrey Open before the tour was shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Murray, the former men's world number one, won the first of his three Grand Slam titles at the 2012 US Open.
The 33-year-old Murray continues his recovery from hip surgery, and will compete in Flushing Meadows for the first time since 2018.
