People take to social media to vent concerns on COVID vaccine

Muscat: People from various parts of the world have questioned how a COVID 19 vaccine is being developed so quickly, when there are still no available cures for ailments such as the common cold, AIDS and cancer.

One user railed on social media: "If the government makes the COVID-19 vaccination mandatory, I will refuse to take it. I am willing to go to prison. Or pay a fine or whatever. I say no to COVID-19 vaccination."

"Coronavirus has been around for 20-odd years so why do we need a vaccine for that," exclaimed another. "For COVID, it would take seven years to test it."

Currently, 139 vaccines are in development, with 26 of them in the human trial phase. Companies in Russia, Britain, the United States, China and India are among those working on a cure for the disease.

But another user took to Twitter to ask how these companies could "make a vaccine in six months for an illness they apparently still don't understand."
