Labour recruitment office shuts down, fined over OMR 1000

Muscat: Sohar Court of First Instance has issued three judicial rulings against a labour recruitment office which was found in violation of the Consumer Protection Law promulgated by Royal Decree No. 66/2014.

A statement issued online by Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) said, "The details of the cases are due to the General Directorate of Consumer Protection in North Al Batinah receiving three complaints from consumers against one of the labour recruitment agencies, through which they reported their contract with an office to bring in domestic workers, but after a short period of their work they refused to work, which led the consumers to return the workers to the office."

"The consumers agreed with the owner of the office to replace them because they are under the guarantee, but the office did not replace them nor did he commit to guarantee the service."

"This prompted the consumers to submit complaints to the directorate that took the necessary measures by their specialists, and after completing the files of the cases, those responsible for the office were referred to the court, which in turn condemned those responsible for the offence for not committing to provide the service properly and not committing to return its value."

"The court ruled to permanently shut down the facility and imposed a fine of OMR 1180," the statement added.
