National Veterinary Quarantine for Shrimp Mothers to be set up

Muscat: Two agreements have been signed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries to set up, operate National Vet Quarantine for Shrimp Mothers.

A statement issued online by Oman News Agency (ONA), said :"The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries today signed agreements to set up and operate a National Veterinary Quarantine for Shrimp Mothers, as well as a usufruct for land plot to set up the quarantine."

"The agreements were signed with Oman Fisheries Development Company, with an annual capacity estimated at 16,000 pairs of reproducing shrimp mothers in different sites in Oman."

"The agreement was signed by Eng. Yaqoub bin Khalfan al-Busaidi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries for Fisheries, and Sheikh Nasser bin Sulaiman al-Harthy, Deputy Chairman of Board of Directors of Oman Fisheries Development Company."

"The National Veterinary Quarantine, coming up in the Wilayat of Barka, consists of quarantine units, each capable of receiving 750 shrimps (male, female), which will be transferred to breeding areas."

"The agreement signing comes within the framework of existing cooperation between the Ministry and private sector firms, constituting an arm of investment in the fisheries sector."

"Oman Fisheries Development Company, affiliated to Oman Investment Authority, is one of the specialized firms in the field of fisheries aquaculture investments. The company develops the fisheries sector to accommodate projects for shrimp breeding and fin fishes by utilizing floating boxes in setting up auxiliary industries such as breeder units and food industries units, in addition to commercial fishing," the statement added.
