North Al Batinah records more than 550 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday

Muscat: North Al Batinah Governorate has recorded the highest number of new cases of COVID-19 among the governorates of the Sultanate with more than 550, according to data from the Ministry of Health, pointing to a significant increase in new cases of coronavirus infections in the region.

On Sunday, statistics made available on Tarassud, the coronavirus monitoring app launched by the ministry, showed that it was North Al Batinah that had registered the most number of new cases across all the governorates, with 555.

A total of 7,004 cases of COVID-19 have been registered in North Al Batinah from the beginning of the pandemic in Oman.

The Wilayat of Suwaiq reported significantly more cases than the others in the Sultanate, having recorded 150 new cases. The Wilayat of Sohar reported 139 cases, Wilayat Saham another 132, 63 more cases were reported in Al Khabourah, 53 in Shinas and 18 new cases in Liwa.

Muscat Governorate, overall, has the highest number of COVID-19 infections in Oman, having recorded 347 new cases of infection. 123 new cases were seen in Seeb, 115 in Bawshar, 51 in Muttrah, 33 in Amerat and 25 in the Wilayat of Muscat.

In South Al Batinah, 99 more people were found to test positive for the disease. There are a total of 5,800 cases in the governorate. 92 new cases were registered in the Interior Ad Dakhiliyah Governorate.

In North Al Sharqiyah Governorate, 65 new COVID-19 patients have been registered. A total of 1,209 people have so far caught the disease. In the Dhahirah Governorate, 51 new cases have come to light and 45 new cases have been recorded in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate.

In the central Al Wusta Governorate, 30 new cases have been registered. There are a total of 1,451 cases in the governorate. 16 new cases were registered in both the Southern Dhofar and Al Buraimi Governorates. In the Northern Musandam Governorate, only two new COVID-19 patients have been registered. A total of 36 people have so far caught the disease.

There have also been a total of 257 deaths owing to the spread of the pandemic in Oman. 156 of these unfortunate deaths have been in the Muscat Governorate, while North Batinah has recorded 31. 34 deaths have taken place in South Batinah, Ten each in South Sharqiyah and Ad Dakhiliyah Governorates, two in North Al Sharqiyah, seven in Al Buraimi, six in Dhofar and one in the Dhahirah governorate.
