Consumer protection authority in Oman recovers over OMR 6,000 in fines

Muscat: The Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP), has recovered more than OMR 6,000 as part of judicial recoveries and administrative fines in the first half of 2020, according to the statistical indicators report for the first half of the year 2020.

A statement issued online by the PACP, said: "The total judicial recoveries and administrative fines that were obtained by the Department of Consumer Protection in North Al Sharqiyah governorate during the first half of 2020 amounted to OMR 6,250, according to the statistical indicators report for the first half of the year 2020."

"The administration was able to retrieve OMR 1700 for the benefit of consumers while the total administrative fines amounted to OMR 850 during the same period. The administration was also able to collect judicial fines totaling OMR 3,700 following the issuance of 27 judicial rulings in favour of consumers."

"The report also clarified that the number of complaints received by the administration during the first half of 2020 amounted to 109, while the total number of hotline notifications received by the administration reached 126. The number of violations reached 52, inspection visits made reached 4,113 and seizures totaled 532 items," the statement added.
