30% reduction in syllabus for CBSE schools in Oman

Muscat: Students attending CBSE schools in Oman and around the world will have a reduced academic syllabus for the 2020-21 academic year, as a result of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The decision, according to the Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE), will affect students between classes IX and XII.

“The board has decided to revise the syllabi for classes IX-XII for the academic session 2020-21,” said Dr Joseph Emmanuel, Director (academics) at CBSE. “However the reduced syllabus will not be part of the topics for internal assessment and year-end board examination.”

However, the syllabus will remain unchanged for students from grades I to VIII.

“Considering the importance of learning achievement, it has been decided to rationalise syllabus up to 30 percent by retaining the core concepts,” said Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, India’s Minister for Human Resource Development, in a statement.

“Looking at the extraordinary situation prevailing in the country and the world, CBSE was advised to revise the curriculum and reduce course load for the students of Class IX to XII.”
