Muscat airport handles 64,000 passengers in over three months

Muscat: Although Oman airports remain closed due to COVID-19 pandemic, 64,000 passengers have travelled through Muscat International Airport (MIA) in special flights in over three months.
According to statistics issued by Oman Airports, as many as 5,455 flights landed and departed from the Muscat International Airport between March 23 to June 27, 2020.
Officials said that flights via Oman’s airports dropped by 85 per cent while the number of passengers dropped by 90 per cent compared to last year.
According to statistics issued by Oman Airports, the number of passengers arriving and departing in special flights at MIA stood at 64,000.
This however, doesn’t include the charter flights that went all around the globe. Among the 64,000 people, stats revealed that 14,646 Indian nationals used Muscat airport making them the biggest contingent followed by 8,883 Omanis.
Other nationalities that have used the airport include Qatar (7,296), Pakistan (5,312), Egypt (4,803), Britain (3,933) Iran (2,547), Germany (2,212), Thailand (2,122), Bangladesh (1,767), Tanzania (1,171), Filipino (887), Sri Lanka (839), Saudi Arabia (697), the United Arab Emirates (664), France (652), Jordan (650), Bahrain (638), Turkey (574), Malaysia (571), Tunisia (554), Russia (398), Nepal (314), China (232), New Zealand (222), Lebanon (209), Kuwait (207), Somalia (179), Iraq (153), Syria (143), Chad (70), Kenya (54), the Maldives (18), and Burundi (6).
