Muscat records 15,000 Covid-19 cases

Muscat: With the highest number of new cases - 799 reported in the country on Thursday, Muscat Governorate approaches 15,000 cases of COVID-19 according to data from the Ministry of Health.

The Tarassud app, which provides daily updates on the COVID-19 situation in the country, reported that Muscat recorded 799 new cases of the disease, which makes the total cases of COVID-19 in Muscat Governorate 14,937.

Wilayat of Baushar has recorded the highest number of new cases in the governorate with 287, which makes the total cases of COVID-19 in Bawshar to be 3,954 cases. Wilayat Seeb reported another 272 fresh cases to become the second Wilayat which registered more cases of this disease in the Sultanate with 4,689.

Both wilayats reported significantly more cases than wilayat Muttrah, which recorded only 125 new cases, which has the most cases of COVID-19 in Muscat governorate especially and the Sultanate in general with 5,202 cases. The wilayat of Amerat reported 72 new cases, wilayat Muscat another 37, and six more cases were reported in Quriyat.

Outside the governorate of Muscat, the highest jump in new cases was seen today in the Central Al Wusta Governorate, which reported 100 fresh cases to reach a total of 500 reported cases so far. 48 fresh cases were also seen in South Batinah, which means that the governorate now has a total of 1,294 reported cases. North Al Batinah Governorate now has 1,312 cases of infection, after 46 more people were reported to have caught the disease there.

Al Dakhiliyah Governorate reported another 28 new cases, taking the total number of reported COVID-19 cases there to 739. In South Al Sharqiyah, 11 cases were reported, pushing the total number of cases there to 443. The number of cases in North Sharqiyah rose to 259 after 10 new cases were reported there. The total number of COVID-19 cases in the Dhofar governorate crossed the 70-infection mark after three new cases were reported there. In addition, 16 new cases also came to light in Al Buraimi, leaving that governorate with a total of 213.

In the Dhahirah governorate, the presence of another six cases brought the total number of infections there to 176. The only region in Oman to not register a new case was the northern governorate of Musandam. There have also been a total of 89 deaths owing to the spread of the pandemic in Oman. 72 of these unfortunate deaths have been in the Muscat Governorate after four new deaths were registered today, of which two deaths were in Baushar and two in Seeb. North Batinah has recorded four. One more death was registered in South Al Batinah which has taken the total to seven deaths, three in South Sharqiyah, and one each in Dhofar, Dakhiliyah, and the Dhahirah governorates.
