PACA issues seventh alert on Arabian Sea weather

Muscat: The Public Authority of Civil Aviation (PACA) has published the seventh alert of the weather over the Arabian Sea.

A statement issued online by PACA said, “Latest weather charts and the analysis by the National Multi Hazards Early Warning Center indicate that the tropical depression has been located over the Republic of Yemen with estimated surface wind speed around the centre between 15-23 knots, 27-40 km/hr.”

The statement pointed out that, “The heavy thundershowers are expected to continue over Dhofar governorate and likely to concentrate over the western parts and surrounding desert areas of the governorate, approximately 50 - 100 mm. The next 24 hours will see strong winds, flooding over low-coastal areas and an increase in wadis flow with a reduction in horizontal visibility. Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected along the coastal areas and the adjacent mountains.”

“Sea conditions will continue to be rough along the governorates of Dhofar from 3-4 meters, meanwhile along Al Wusta and South Al Sharqiyah will be upto 2 meters,” the statement added.

The Public Authority of Civil Aviation called upon all to take precaution and stay away from low lying areas, avoiding crossing wadis and avoid venture into the sea.
