Cases in Seeb on the rise as infections in Muttrah drop

Muscat: Seeb recorded the highest number of new cases of COVID-19 among all the wilayats in Muscat on Sunday, according to government data.

The Ministry of Health’s Tarassud app revealed that Seeb recorded 330 new cases of infection, with Muttrah, which is currently under health isolation to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, recorded only 137 more cases.

In second place when it came to new cases of COVID-19 reported in Muscat was Baushar, which reported 285 fresh cases. Al Amerat has recorded 37 new cases, while Wilayat Muscat has only reported three. 10 new cases have been discovered in Quriyat.

There are, in total, 8,648 cases in Muscat governorate, which accounts for 75.6 percent of the total number of cases in Oman, which stood at 11,437, as of Sunday, 31 May. In a distant second place for the governorate with the highest number of cases was South Al Batinah, with 787 cases, or just 6.8 percent of all reported cases.

North Al Batinah is third, with a total of 760 reported cases (6.6 percent) since the outbreak of COVID-19 was first seen in Oman, while the Dakhiliyah region was fourth, at 499 cases, or 4.36 percent. There have been 283 cases of the novel coronavirus reported in South Shariqyah, accounting for 2.4 percent of cases in the country, while North Sharqiyah made up just one percent of cases (123 cases). It was slightly higher in the Dhahirah governorate, at 145 cases (1.25 percent).

There are a total of 114 cases in Al Buraimi, which also represents less than one percent of all cases, while case numbers in the Wusta (42), Dhofar (28) and Musandam governorates (eight) are yet to cross double figures.
