Ministry ensures availability of agricultural crops in Al Mawaleh market

Muscat: The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries has ensured enough stock of agricultural crops including onions at the Al Mawaleh Central Market for Fruits and Vegetables. 1,189 tonnes of onions was received by the market during the past 48 hours.
The Port of Sohar received 22 shipments from India, the Netherlands and Spain, with a total weight of 988 tonnes, in addition to 85 tonnes of Yemeni onions. The Port of Salalah received 116 tonnes and more quantities will be received in the upcoming days.
To further follow up on the agricultural imports and in coordination with onion traders of wholesale market, the ministry's specialists have designed a form to count the quantities of onions and how they are distributed to traders in various governorates. This aims to track their marketing in local markets, in coordination with the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP), in addition to emphasising the traders to rationalise and regulate local distribution in all governorates to ensure that the commodities are available at fixed prices.
