COVID-19 in Oman may peak in mid-April

Muscat: COVID-19 cases in Oman are expected to peak in mid-April, the country’s Ministry of Health has said.

H.E. Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed al-Saidi was speaking to Shabiba FM, the radio channel of Times of Oman’s sister publication, Al Shabiba.

He also explained the preparations the country had taken to stop the spread of COVID-19, and how he sees developments around the disease taking place.

“Community transmission of COVID-19 began last week. This means there are cases in the community that are yet to be detected. The peak of the COVID-19 outbreak in Oman will be during mid-April, and the upcoming two weeks will see an increase in the number of cases due to the return of students studying overseas.”

“If the Sultanate had not taken precautionary measures in January, the number of coronavirus infections would have reached 82,000 by mid April,” added the minister.
