Oman takes tough measures to combat coronavirus

Muscat: The Supreme Committee tasked to tackle with the developments of Coronavirus (COVID 19) held a meeting on Tuesday, chaired by Sayyid Hamood bin Faisal Al Busaidi, Minister of Interior in the presence of members of the Committee.

The committee took the following decisions:-

1. The entry to the Sultanate through all border posts is restricted to Omanis only . Omanis shall not depart the Sultanate to other countries.
2. Closure of all mosques except for the call for prayers ( Azan)
3. Closure of worship places for all non-Muslims.
4. Suspension of all gatherings, events and conferences in the Sultanate of Oman.
5. Closure of all tourism sites and banning of gatherings at public places including beaches and picnic areas such as Wadis , Sands, Waterfalls and water springs.
6. Closure of all shops at shopping malls , with an exception to foodstuff and consumables outlets, clinics, pharmacies and optician shops.
7. Closure of traditional souqs such as these of Muttrah, Nizwa, Al Rustaq and Sinaw as well as popular souqs such as the weekly ones.
8. Banning serving food at the restaurants and coffee shops, including at the hotels, with an exception to the takeaway food service.
9. Closure of sports and cultural clubs.
10. Closure of gyms and health clubs, barber shops and beauty saloons.
This decision shall take effect from 12 noon , on, Wednesday 18 March.
