Muscat Municipality launches drive to stem coronavirus spread

Muscat: Muscat Municipality has carried out a campaign at commercial centres and complexes for shopkeepers and business owners to take precautionary measures in light of the spread of the novel coronavirus.
An official from Muscat Municipality said, “The Muscat Municipality has implemented an intensive campaign for commercial centres and complexes in all wilayats of the governorate of Muscat to oblige them to provide hand sanitisers at the entrances to centres and complexes, and to adhere to the sterilisation of all shopping carts. These measures will be implemented in all states of the governorate of Muscat as a precautionary measure to limit the spread of the coronavirus and provide a healthy environment for consumers.
“All the commercial centres and malls have shown compliance with these measures and have already begun implementing the instructions of the Muscat Municipality,” he added.
In addition to these precautionary steps aimed at halting the potential spread of COVID-19, Muscat Municipality has said that those who are not found maintaining proper hygiene standards in the workplace will be fined OMR20.
“Those who are found to be in violation of personal hygiene are required to pay a fine of OMR20, and undertake an immediate commitment to fulfilling the required standards of hygiene,” the municipality official added.
Muscat Municipality also stressed that by law employees in activities related to public health must adhere to personal hygiene and attention to clean work sites, in order to avoid violations, and prevent the spread of COVID-19.
