Muscat: A total of 265 employees of Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) donated blood at the latest blood donation campaign organised by the PDO Medical Centre.
The campaign was organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Health’s Blood Bank. Several such blood collection drives are
conducted every year at the company’s headquarters.
“Blood has a short shelf-life, so this should encourage existing and potential donors to donate blood at regular intervals,” a representative said. Last year, 600 units of blood were collected from PDO volunteers during similar donation campaigns.
Dr Sulaiman Al Rawahi, Chief Medical Officer at the PDO, said, “Donating blood can not only can save a patient’s life, but also help the donor improve his or her body metabolism.” The event also highlighted the need for regular blood donation, as individuals suffering from life threatening conditions need constant support.
“Patients suffering from life-threatening conditions can live longer and enjoy a better quality of life. Blood donation also has an essential, life-saving role in maternal and child care, and during man-made and natural disasters,” the representative added.
